On Sunday, October 16, Motivators Inc. showed its support for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by participating in the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk at Jones Beach State Park in New York. Together, the Motivators staff raised over $2,500 to help save lives and raise awareness. But, perhaps more importantly, employees gave their time and energy for an important cause.
Over a dozen staff members woke up at the crack of dawn to walk at Jones Beach and distribute pink promotional beach balls to help the American Cancer Society reach its goal of creating "a world with less breast cancer and more birthdays." The beach balls not only helped keep participants' spirits high, but will also serve as lasting reminders for recipients to perform self-tests and receive annual mammograms.
All in all, the Long Island community collected and donated $2.9 million to help save lives, making Long Island's Making Strides walk the second biggest fund-raising event nationwide. Additionally, according to the official 2011 Making Strides of Long Island Web site, more than 55,000 Long Island residents walked at the Jones Beach State Park event, helping to prove that together, we can make a difference.
This year wasn't Motivators' first time partaking in the Making Strides walk; the 2011 event marked Motivators' fifth year participating. Last year, the promotional products distributor raised over $2,000 for the initiative, and also donated 10% of proceeds on its line of breast cancer awareness items to the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund, Inc. According to a Motivators press release, CEO Ken Laffer, MAS, MASI is extremely proud of the Motivators family for its "continued efforts in the fight against breast cancer."
Stacie Atkinson, Motivators' PPC/SEO Specialist and a new addition to the Motivators family, was pleased to participate in the event for the first time this year. Atkinson said she'd never seen so many people at Jones Beach. "It was like a sea of pink," she said. "I even put a pink bandanna with the breast cancer awareness ribbon on my dog, who walked to show his support as well.”
Motivators is no stranger to backing a great cause. The leading distributor has supported several awareness projects over the years. In July 2010, Motivators partnered up with CarbonFund.org to offset its carbon footprint. And, in January 2011, the promotional products company ran a holiday toy drive for children at Winthrop University Hospital.
