Combatting Office Health Hazards with Promotional Products
The 9-to-5 workday has become a seemingly obsolete notion in the corporate world. According to a study done by CNN, the average corporate worker spends two extra hours at the office per day. Increasing a normal workday from 8 hours to 10 hours means that normal corporate employees and cubicle dwellers will spend an extra 520 hours per year in their offices. While this may mean that employees are being more productive, a recent article published by Newsweek revealed that the daily activities of office workers can pose hazardous to their health. Increasing the amount of hours that employees spend at their desks only raises the risk for long-term health problems. Most employers provide their employees with health insurance, but it is possible to combat the risk of office-related health hazards by providing employees with simple promotional items. In fact, each of the top five office health hazards can be proactively combated with promotional items purchased by employers.
1. Eye Strain Caused by Computer Screens
Employees who work at computers for more than one hour per day run the risk of having red, tired eyes caused by the bright glare of computer screens. In addition to having eye drops on hand, encourage employees to take short breaks and concentrate on something other than the computer for a few minutes each day. Offer up an executive game as a holiday gift or as a welcome present to new employees. Newton's cradle or some executive mind benders are fun and simple promotional items that will provide some soothing relaxation, without being too distracting.
2. Back and Body Pain
Sitting at a desk for hours each day certainly can take a toll on your back. The best way to avoid back pain is to pay attention to ergonomics. Equip all computer workstations with ergonomic mouse pads and keyboard rests. At meetings, provide ergonomic writing instruments such as pens and highlighters. Not only do the help the body, they have a unique design and come in a variety of colors.
3. Noisy Offices
It' s easy to be distracted by office noises such as coworkers talking on the phone, or the annoying beeps of the fax machine. Focusing on the task at hand becomes more difficult in noisier environments, which can lead to employees feeling stressed and overwhelmed. Help employees reduce stress levels caused by noisy office environments by providing noise cancellation headphones. These will block out sounds from neighboring cubicles and allow employees to work without noisy distractions.
4. Unhealthy Eating Habits
Most employees can't be bothered with sparing more than a few minutes for lunch. This makes the fast food drive-thru and the office vending machine favorable options when lunch rolls around. Encourage employees to “brown bag” their lunch by providing them with imprinted lunch bags. Having an insulated lunch bag may incline employees to bring healthier options for lunch.
5. General Office Discord
Newsweek reports that bad vibes are the fifth and final office health hazard. People are likely to feel more stressed due to tense working situations, like office-bullying or tense working relationships. Provide employees with promotional items imprinted with motivational messages. Messages of reassurance will instill a sense of comfort with employees. While they will not completely solve the problems, they can make employees feel more comfortable about expressing their concerns.
